2026 is projected to be the fourth consecutive record-setting year for the cruise industry, with one million more Americans cruising this year, according to AAA Travel. 20% of cruisers are traveling with children.

Wave Season runs through the first quarter of the year and is when cruise lines offer some of their best promotions. Families may see reduced deposits, kids sailing free, onboard credits, and discounts on excursions.
Cruise Lines & What’s New
Royal Caribbean International
Royal Caribbean continues to lead in large-scale, family-focused ships. In 2026, the newest Icon Ship class is coming in July. Legend of the Seas launches with Western Mediterranean sailings from Barcelona and Rome before moving to Ft Lauderdale, FL in November for six and eight-night Caribbean voyages.
Families will have 28 dining options, 20 bars and lounges, plus new entertainment offerings. Roald Dahl’s “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” is making its debut at sea in the Royal Theater, bringing the magical world of Willy Wonka to life, and Absolute Zero, the largest ice arena at sea.
It also features six waterslides at Category 6, the largest waterpark at sea, an Adrenaline Peak rock-climbing wall, mini golf at Lost Dunes, and seven pools and 10 whirlpools.
Royal Beach Club Paradise Island in the Bahamas opened in December. It’s the first of an exciting lineup of upcoming destinations, including Royal Beach Club Cozumel and Royal Beach Club Santorini, which open this year.
Disney Cruise Line
Disney Cruise Line debuts Disney Adventure in March 2026, based in Singapore. The ship will offer short three- and four-day sailings called ‘cruises to nowhere’ focused on onboard experiences, including Pixar and Marvel-themed areas and Disney’s first Iron Man roller coaster at sea.
Norwegian Cruise Line
Norwegian Luna launches from Miami in April 2026 with Western and Eastern Caribbean itineraries. It will offer “Sea of Discovery! An Under-the-Sea Festival,” a new interactive experience for little ones, and feature high-energy attractions such as a hybrid rollercoaster and waterslide.

- How many days do you have? You can take a short cruise of 3 to 4 days or choose a week-long or longer cruise.

- What’s your budget? Cruising can be an excellent value for your family vacation. The costs typically include accommodations, sailing between ports of call, all meals, and onboard entertainment.
