RV Road Trip to Colorado with Travel Mom Jenny
This summer, it was an RV Road Trip to Colorado for Travel Mom Jenny and her family. She joins us to share all the details from their 10-day adventure from San Diego. Jenny said it perfectly, “America is so freakin beautiful.”
What was your last big family adventure?
This summer, we rented an RV through RVshare and drove from San Diego to the Grand Canyon, then up into Colorado and back down through Lake Powell.
We’ve always wanted to do this adventure. My husband planned it all and prebooked campsites. Then we were off on our RV Road Trip to Colorado with our 7-year-old and 13-year-old daughters.
How was the RV Road Trip?
It was very bonding, a special time us.
Traveling in the RV is very peaceful. It reminds me of taking the train in Europe, seeing the landscape and country. America is so beautiful. That was one of the best parts. Seeing how magical so much that’s close to us is.
It was intense for my husband as the driver, as each leg was about 8 hours. But it was nice for the rest of us to relax and not have to stop for bathroom breaks.
It’s a lot of preparation with food and supplies to make sure you have most of what you need while on the road.
Tell us about your Stops
We spent 2 to 3 nights at each stop along the Colorado Road Trip.
Our first stop was in the Grand Canyon, Arizona. We stayed in the Trailer Village RV Park.
Then we drove north to Ouray, Colorado, where we stayed at The Perkins Family Ouray RV Park & Cabins with beautiful hot springs.
Stagecoach Reservoir was our next stop. We stayed at Stagecoach State Park where we camped with family. It was super fun and very hippy dippy.
We also ventured to Strawberry Park Hot Springs just outside of Steamboat Springs.
Lake Powell, Arizona, was our final stop. We stayed at Wahweap RV & Campground. Unfortunately, all the boats and water sports were rented, so we cut our stay there short.
What was the BEST part of the trip for you?
All being together. It’s so peaceful to get everyone away and unplugged. Many places didn’t even have working internet.
I really loved the whole experience. This is a real American thing. I learned so much about the RV culture that now we’re thinking about getting one.
What was the BEST part of the trip for the family?
Food is always a favorite part of us. We cooked most of our meals, which was fun, and only ate out a couple of times.
We love hot springs. We got really lucky with crowds as due to COVID, most were limiting the number of people they let in.
Why do you travel with your kids?
To give them real-life experiences like seeing the Grand Canyon in person. That’s where things sink in with you. Those are the memories.
We remember our experiences, not the things we get.
Next trip you’re planning or dreaming about?
We owe our girls raincheck trips from Christmas presents…New York City and Florida. And lots more RV’ing.
