We love the Springtime with all of the flowers in bloom, especially the cherry blossoms!
From the end of March to early May, sakura (cherry blossom) blooms all over Japan. The Japanese annual flower-viewing celebration is called hanami. When the blossoms are in bloom, people gather with friends and family under the trees to celebrate the flowers. The cherry blossom represents the beauty of life and how delicate it is.
In 1912, Japan gave 3,000 sakura trees as a gift to the United States to celebrate the nations’ friendship. Every Spring the celebrate the gift, the National Cherry Blossom Festival takes place in Washington, DC. You can see the beautiful blooms on the festival’s Bloom Cam. The grand finale each year is Sakura Matsuri, the Japanese street festival, the largest one-day celebration of Japanese culture in the United States.
